"Seattle Silence"

I got that title from a young lady I chatted with today in the elevator, whose from Chicago.  It was nice that she was willing to smile & chat with me as we came home from the bus.  I knew then that she wasn't 'from Seattle' based on her bubbly personality and I asked her where she was from.  We remarked about the non-approachable behavior and she said she and her boyfriend call it the "Seattle Silence"

Admittedly most people are generally reluctant to just initiate a conversation and if you try, they are concerned your trying to either sell them something or are just weird.  How sad we are now?

Since today was actually a nice day outside, still cold but NOT raining and actually a tad sunny, I would have hoped that it would have drawn people out and in a better mood.  And come on, it's Hump Day.  But these lunch time fashion photos definitely showed the "Seattle Silence."  It was kind of fun watching people either rush past you or not smile.  Although I found a few 'happy humpers' thankfully.

Besides the Seattle Silent looks, note the lack of color.  Fashion style - note the large BAG epidemic.  If you aren't carrying a large bag or backpack (note the background peeps in the grumpy man photo) you are obviously not a native/transplanted Seattleite.  These come in handy for laptops, umbrellas, lunch, change of clothes, change of shoes, etc... You would think that we were a city of students.  Some people also have multiple bags/backpacks and if you ride the bus, they are their 'deterents' and sadly the reason some need to carry Febreze in those damn things!! B.O. on a very packed bus do not go together.  EWWWWW

Here's one of my Happy Humpers!                          This guy's working the 'cool' look.
With color & great style - love the hair.

Long hair & leather are sometimes a MUST for the Seattle man.  He wears them well... (lol).

And this couple reflect: his laid back style but good choice of color & fit.  She's wearing the Seattle uniform - boots & sweater dress style.
Here is a definitive European (I did hear him chat with someone, so that was good) and his style reflects a European look: shorter cut to the pants (couldn't tell if too tight or just because of the hands in pockets), but with the pencil leg, the length is somewhat acceptable with the nicer leather shoes and the sweater.  Great color combination and love the punch of color on the tie!!  Congrats.

Sadly this poor man would be a DON'T (Glamour magazines "Do's/Don't" section).  What doesn't help is the poor cut of his pants as well as his poor posture.  I've seen this quite often, its the jutting of the hips while your knees are buckled.  It throws the thighs out and (obviously) makes them look FAT... uh oh.  Word of advice to the men - thunder thighs are also a sign of what we older women refer to as "Secretary Spread" - it happens when you sit too long and eat too many munchies.
Otherwise this would be a DO style - the clean cut hair, the pink, and the overall look are still good for a suit style.
